How To Clean Your Electric Heater?

The wide variety of heating equipment in the market, their affordability, and their ease of maintenance make electric heaters a popular choice for heating. No matter what type of heater you have in your home or office, whether it is a wall-mounted or a portable one, you want it to serve you well and run smoothly for many years.
However, as a result of daily use, dirt, dust particles and debris accumulate inside the electric heater units, which leads to a reduction in heating efficiency, causes odours to emanate, and may even cause fires due to overheating. This can compromise the heating devices’ lifespan.
All electric heaters would need to be cleaned out on a regular basis. In this article, we will explain the process of cleaning your electric heater. But first, the cleaning equipments you would need are given below:
- Microfiber cloth
- Sponge
- A bucket of water with soapy water
- Protective gear – mask to prevent inhalation of dust, gloves to protect your hands, and safety glasses to prevent dust entering your eyes
- A vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment or narrow nozzle
Turn off the electric heater: It is important to switch off the electric heater before you start cleaning it. Unplug it and wait for at least 15 minutes to let it cool.
Clean the outer surface: Clean the loose dust found on the outer parts of the electric heater with a clean microfiber duster. Once you have done that, wipe down the entire surface with a damp sponge. Remember to squeeze the sponge tightly to get rid of the excess water. Make sure you clean every nook and cranny, including the knobs, wires, and under body. Allow the heater to dry before proceeding.
Clean the grilles, vents and slats: The components that tend to collect the maximum dust are the grilles, vents and slats. For stubborn dust, use a compressed air duster. Compressed air duster can easily remove any dry dust, debris, and other particles from the heater’s interior.
Vacuum the interior: Give a good vacuuming with a dusting brush attachment or with a narrow nozzle so that the dust collected from all the crevices and hard-to-reach places are removed. Make sure not to disturb the electrical wires and other components.
Soapy water to remove stubborn stains: For stubborn stains use a cloth soaked in a small bucket of soapy water. Again, always remember to squeeze the cloth tightly to get rid of the excess water. Rub the cloth over the stain repeatedly to remove it. Any interior components of the heater must not be cleaned with soapy water, as the residual soapy water content can cause the electrical components to rust.
Regularly cleaning your electric heater both on the surface and within is highly recommended to minimise the build-up of dirt and dust. Electric heaters that are dirty are not only unhygienic and filthy to touch, but are most likely to overheat as well. This decreases the efficiency of the equipment resulting in soaring electricity bills. If you want to prevent your electric heater from getting damaged or becoming a possible fire hazard, make sure it is kept clean and maintained as much as possible.
